It started as a Facebook group
The ASU List group has been running since 2011 and has more than 24,000 members. It still runs — you can join it here. The trouble with a group that size is that a post scrolls away in an hour, there is no search worth using, and nothing has a price on it. This site and the iPhone app are the same idea with those three problems fixed.
Why it's free
ASU List never touches the money. You and the buyer settle up however you like — cash, Venmo, Zelle — and we take no cut, because there is nothing for us to take a cut of. No listing fee, no selling fee, no promoted placement, no premium tier. A marketplace for a $30 desk cannot afford to charge for a $30 desk.
Who's here
Mostly ASU students and people living around campus, across Tempe, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa and Gilbert. You don't have to be a student to buy or sell — anyone in the metro can. Sellers who signed up with an asu.edu address carry a Student badge on their listings, so you can see at a glance who's on campus.
What you can't sell
Weapons, drugs, counterfeits, live animals, and anything you can't legally hand to a stranger in a parking lot. Every listing has a report link and we read what comes through it. The full rules are in the terms.
